Take the guesswork out of enjoying world-class brushless power with the Velineon Brushless Power System. The Velineon 3500 Brushless Motor is precision matched to deliver a perfect balance of horsepower and efficiency. All components work together to create an optimized package. Engineered for efficiency, speed and run-time. Battery selection determines the top speed and skill level of the VXL. Traxxas’s bandit accepts a wide range of battery configurations. With a built-in low voltage in VXL-3s Electronic Speed Control helps you to maintain your LIPO batteries and keep them in top condition.
Some users are disappointed due to the 2WD drivetrain but it is managed by the Traxxas Stability Management System. Which provides arrow-straight acceleration even on slippery surfaces. Power into the corners with no worries as the TSM makes subtle adjustments in the background. The Velineon Brushless Power System and the Traxass Stability Management are optimized to put down tire-shredding horsepower.
First of all it has waterproof electronics and digital high-torque 2075 servos ensure sharp and precise turning and control. Precision steel turnbuckles and heavy duty rod-ends create a tough unit and prove hard to break. Telescoping drive shafts add to the already strong suspension. Brushless ready planetary differential with steel internal gears for ultimate toughness. Also the fibre-composite camber link arms help bolster the suspension to make it a virtually unbreakable buggy.
The Bandit VXL furthermore comes with the most powerful radio system on the market. Traxass’ TQi 2.4GHz radio system has so many features it will make your head spin! One of these features is the automatic model recognition. You can also store the settings for up to 30 different models in the Traxxas range. Simply turn on the transmitter and the model you wish to drive, the transmitter will automatically detect the model and you are away. All of your previous settings will be readily available when you drive it again. Fully customizable, all of the important settings are in the palm of your hand. Like steering and throttle end positions. Steering sensitivity, throttle sensitivity, steering percentage, braking percentage and even throttle trim.
Along with model detection, Traxxas also has a revolutionary piece of technology in telemetry. Just by adding the optional telemetry sensors to your buggy, you can harness the power of the Traxxas App. This well developed application that is available on Apple in addition to Android devices, allows you to control the settings on your buggy in real time. So while you are driving or racing around the track, you can have someone changing the settings of the vehicle on the fly! Finally, these settings that you control from your device can be saved and will be ready to go next time you race.
Kyosho Inferno MP9e Brushless RC Buggy Off-Road 4WD
Kyosho’s 4WD buggy is an excellent addition to any brushless RC buggy racer’s arsenal. It’s a powerful, durable vehicle with great speed and responsiveness. It comes with the best in modern remotes and can be upgraded with almost any MP9 parts, should you want to go even faster.
Kyosho offers both kit and RTR versions of very similar cars. While this review is for a ready-to-race model, all of the applicable information should be similar to any kits. While some of the parts in the kits tend to be a bit higher-end, the kits do not come with engines, tires, or radio systems. You’ll have to find those yourself. Even without these components, the kits are a bit more expensive than the RTR versions with cheaper parts.
Inferno MP9’s Features:
- Equipped with high speed and high torque servos
- Original Inferno design shaft drive 3 diff full time 4WD chassis
- Setting adjustments: wheelbase, tread, roll centre, caster angle, toe angle, and camber also change gear ratio
- Strongest version yet of the 8 world championship winning Inferno
First, the engine: with stock parts, we clocked this at just under 60 mph on a road. Like all brushless engines, the R8 included with this unit gives you full torque instantly from the starting position and has incredibly precise speed control. We found this unit to be very quick and responsive. Upgrading the battery, tires, and suspension can get you quite a bit more speed if you so desire — the major limiting factor is how much juice your battery has when it comes to pure speed. The all-steel driveline will last for years of racing and abuse.
That said, this brushless RC buggy does run a bit hot. We think it might be because the 12t pinion is too small for the beastly motor the car comes with. Switching to a 15t or 16t pinion may be a good investment.
The suspension is fully upgrade-able, if you choose to go that route, but we found the stock parts to be perfectly adequate for off-road use. The steering servo uses plastic gearing, which may tickle some enthusiasts the wrong way, but it’s more than functional and responds great. Stamped 3mm shock towers keep everything glued to the ground, even under bumpy conditions. When we tested the car on a dirt field, we stayed in control no matter how hard we spun around.
The inserts in our tires bunched up after about a day’s use. We were able to jimmy them around and get them back into place, but if you plan on doing serious racing with this car, you’ll probably want to replace those too. This isn’t particularly unusual — most MP9 ready-to-race units make very good use of a tire upgrade.
The body on this buggy is incredible. It’s a solid piece with countersunk screws and aluminum steering knuckles that somehow manages to feel incredibly light. Every screw in this bad-boy is thread locked, meaning you don’t have to worry about things coming lose when you bump around a little bit. We didn’t notice any damage, dents or even scratches from our day of off-road testing. Between the chassis and the engine, this unit is a perfect starter for anyone wanting to get into serious brushless RC buggy racing.
The 2.4GHz radio included with the unit features a back-lit LCD display and controls a bunch of advanced settings. It’s comfortable and easy to use. Battery life seemed fine, range was excellent as we were able to control our car from several hundred feet away.
The ready-to-race product we reviewed required a 7.4 volt LiPo battery, a charger for that battery, and 4 AA batteries for the remote. If you’re buying this as a gift, be sure to include these things. If you’re buying this for yourself, remember that one of the limiting factors when it comes to speed is the battery, so make sure you get a powerful enough one to go as fast as you want.
Overall, this is a great starter car for someone looking to get into serious racing or someone who’d rather upgrade a working car than buy a kit. While it can benefit hugely from a few upgrades (namely the pinion, tires, and steering servos), it’s still a fast, durable car right out of the box. Best of all, it’s competitively priced under the cost of many comparable kits, meaning that you’ll save money too!
